Mediating your Separation
A divorce can take months or longer, it is in the bests interests of both spouses to plan the period of separation. All too often, the separation occurs in the “heat of the moment” and one spouse may be left without a place to live and little or no property with which to furnish the future living arrangement. When there are children, this disruption can be particularly disturbing.
A divorce means doing more with less. After all you are dividing the pie and no matter how you cut it, you will not have a whole pie. The separation period can be particularly difficult especially when one spouse must temporarily furnish an apartment while the other spouse temporarily maintains all of the personal property.
The situation can be even more complicated when there are children involved. Children may be uncomfortable at the relocated parent’s home because it lacks familiarity and is void of activities for the children.
Planning and agreeing upon how the same income will support two households during the separation goes a long way in helping your children adjust to the pending life change they will face by your divorce and in helping the assets of your marriage be preserved and put to their best use.
Through mediation, Nubson Law can help you and your spouse work through the separation budget, temporary distribution of property, and temporary parenting time schedule that will smooth the path to dissolution.
